The company announced the recall after routine lab testing revealed the presence of Listeria. No illnesses have been reported so far.
What Lidl Ice Cream Was Recalled?
Lidl recalled one lot of its Gelatelli brand Coffee and Vanilla Gelato with Coffee Sauce and Cookie Pieces, which was distributed to stores between July 19 and October 15, 2026, in the following states: Delaware, Georgia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Virginia, and the District of Columbia.
The recalled gelato came in a clear container with a brown lid. Only the following single lot was recalled, which you can identify on the bottom of the container:
- Lot: 085261
- Best By MAR/26/2028
Do not eat the recalled gelato. You should throw it away immediately or return it to Lidl for a refund. The company said a receipt isn’t necessary.
In the FDA announcement, the company said that “Customers who have questions about this recall should call the Lidl US Customer Care Hotline at (844) 747-5435, Monday – Saturday between 8 am – 8 pm ET.”
Listeria Infection Is Mild for Most People, but Poses Serious Health Risks for Vulnerable Groups
Infected people typically experience fever, diarrhea, or other stomach problems that start within 24 hours of eating contaminated food. The illness usually gets better on its own.
Serious listeriosis mostly affects adults over 65, people with compromised immune systems, newborns, and pregnant women.
Invasive Listeriosis
In other high-risk groups, invasive listeriosis can cause serious illness or even death.
Symptoms of invasive listeriosis may take longer to appear, and can include:
- Fever
- Muscle aches
- Headache
- Stiff neck
- Confusion
- Loss of balance
- Seizures
Sometimes these symptoms occur after diarrhea or other gastrointestinal issues.
If you’re in a high-risk group and you experience flu-like symptoms within two weeks of eating potentially contaminated food, you should get medical care and explain your potential exposure.
